The string orchestra is capable of almost everything: intimacy, tension, movement, drama and overwhelming scale.
MAESTOSA Strings, the first collection in the Sinphonica series, was created to capture all of it — and put it in your hands to shape.
Recorded at Officine Meccaniche in Milan, a 60-piece Italian string ensemble was captured in extraordinary detail to create an instrument that combines the emotional character of a real orchestra with the control demanded by modern composers.
Because capturing a great orchestra is only the beginning.
MAESTOSA gives you the sound. Sinphonica gives you the tools to sculpt it.
MAESTOSA Strings is built around a full symphonic ensemble:
Sixty musicians performing as a unified orchestra, recorded to preserve both the individuality of each section and the natural interaction of the complete ensemble.
The result delivers the weight required for cinematic scoring while retaining the detail and musicality needed for exposed arrangements.
From a single intimate line to the full force of sixty players, the orchestra becomes your material to shape.
MAESTOSA Strings offers a remarkably deep articulation set, including approximately 20 long and 9 short articulation families, covering the essential vocabulary of orchestral strings and extending far beyond it.
Sustains move through five perfectly calibrated dynamic layers, while short articulations feature extensive round robins — up to six — helping repeated passages retain the natural variation of a live performance.
But the real difference is not simply how many articulations were recorded.
It’s how naturally you can move between them, and how deeply you can shape the performance.
Legato is at the heart of convincing sampled strings.
MAESTOSA Strings provides five dedicated responsive legato types:
Slur for natural lyrical transitions.
Glissando for expressive movement between notes.
Portamento Slow for emotional, exposed passages.
Portamento Fast for a cantabile, lyrical legato.
Runs for fluid movement across faster phrases.
Together they provide one of the most comprehensive legato toolsets in its class, allowing a performance to change character without changing instruments.
From delicate melodic writing to sweeping cinematic lines, MAESTOSA follows the performance, giving every phrase the movement and expression of real players.
Why should articulations always behave like switches?
With Articulation Morphing, Sinphonica lets you continuously crossfade between two articulations using MIDI CC or velocity.
Move from one playing style into another inside the phrase. Build hybrid articulations. Create evolving performances that would otherwise require multiple tracks and complex automation.
Instead of simply selecting articulations, you can sculpt the movement between them.
Expression becomes continuous instead of binary.
Eight carefully selected microphone perspectives capture MAESTOSA Strings from different positions around the ensemble:
Mix them to create anything from an intimate close perspective to a wide cinematic image.
Then go further with IK’s proprietary Palco virtual stage positioning technology, using multi-microphone impulse response technology to place the orchestra within a virtual acoustic environment.
Shape the perspective. Shape the space. Shape the relationship between the orchestra and the listener..
You’re not simply choosing a microphone.
You’re designing the stage.
Beyond traditional orchestral articulations, MAESTOSA includes an extensive collection of cinematic textures and evolving sounds created from the same orchestral world.
Use them to add movement beneath conventional arrangements, build tension, create atmospheric transitions or transform the orchestra into an entirely new sound source.
Traditional orchestration and contemporary cinematic sound design finally live inside the same instrument — giving you new material to shape into sounds that go far beyond the traditional orchestra.
The Sinphonica Player keeps sophisticated orchestral programming direct.
Build your own articulation maps with an intuitive drag-and-drop Articulation Editor. Shape response with the Dynamic Curve.
Then finish the sound with integrated EQ, stereo imaging and multiple reverb environments.
And with dedicated ensemble patches, you can play the orchestra immediately while retaining control over the individual string sections.
Less programming. More performing. More freedom to sculpt the sound around your music.
MAESTOSA Strings brings together the things composers usually have to choose between:
Symphonic scale and intimate detail.
Deep sampling and immediate workflow.
Traditional orchestral performance and cinematic sound design.
Multiple microphone perspectives and virtual positioning.
Power and playability.
All inside one integrated string instrument.
Captured from 60 extraordinary Italian musicians and transformed through SINPHONICA into an orchestra you can shape at every level — from the expression of a single note to the scale, space and character of the complete ensemble.
60 musicians. Hundreds of sounds. One orchestra shaped by your music.
